Architecture by Design, Ltd. is an architectural firm that balances diverse experience, creative concepts, cost effectiveness, and knowledge of regulations to meet our clients’ goals in every design. Founded in 1992 by Dwight Gilliland, with a vision to serve clients responsively and responsibly, the firm has been in its current home at Mayberry Square (designed by ABD) since 2001.
ABD has planned a wide variety of building types, from foodservice and restaurants, to office buildings and daycares, to light industrial metal buildings and pole barns. We understand that construction can be a complicated endeavor, and we strive to smooth out the process and help our clients create safe, accessible, and energy-efficient buildings. Our team takes the time to be attentive to our clients’ needs, and they find the best way to address those needs and meet the constructability and regulatory requirements of the facility along the way.
Architecture By Design doesn’t just make drawings. ABD enables construction, and in doing so we positively impact everyone’s environment.

From the Ground Up
Do you need a new building? We can work with you to create a new structure on your site, or help you to make a prototype even if you don’t have a site yet! From master planning to construction administration (and every phase in between), we love to help our clients to realize their vision.
Renovations & Alterations
If you have an existing space that needs to be updated to current standards, or if you are changing the use of a structure, or if you are building out an empty tenant building for the first time, we know how to do that! Our team has been accused of being excellent problem solvers when it comes to making difficult programs work within existing buildings.
Life Safety & Code Compliance
Building codes purpose is not to frustrate developers and contractors, but to make buildings safer for the occupants. Our extensive knowledge of building codes and the interpretation of these regulations makes us experts in life safety design, including documentation for certificate of occupancy, fire alarm design, and assessing the compliance of existing buildings.
